Cover: Detail of the dome of the new
Louvre Abu Dhabi by Ateliers Jean
Nouvel. The four external layers of the
dome are separated from the internal
four layers by a steel frame 5 metres
high made of 10,000 components
pre-assembled into 85 supersize
elements, each weighing on average
50 tonnes. The underside of the dome
is Jean Nouvel’s homage to traditional
Arab architecture and its typical way
of treating light.
